Why grind up pasture waste ?

The purpose of grassland maintenance is to preserve the homogeneity of the plant species present and to maintain an appetising grassland. Forage that has gone to seed, which is of lower quality, is removed and provides humus to the soil after it has decomposed.

During the second pass, the grass will be softer and the animals will consume more of these new shoots.

Using a vertical shaft mower promotes a clean cut, which in itself encourages regrowth. In addition, this type of mower preserves the plant's tillering and therefore its productivity potential. The grass can continue to grow and branch out.

At Desvoys, we recommend a cutting height of 75 mm for good regrowth.

Finally, cutting pasture refuse is also a health measure. It reduces the chances of survival for parasites that have settled during the winter.

When do you shred pasture waste ?

Two seasons are ideal for mulching. At the end of winter and beginning of spring, it helps vegetation such as grasses and legumes to recover. At the end of autumn, before the winter dormancy period, mulching will maximise plant renewal.

Rotary mower or lawn mower : which type of mower should you use ?

For maintaining your grassland, we recommend using a vertical shaft mower. Thanks to their high-speed rotors equipped with blades with large fan blades, they will leave you with a clean cut for uniform and rapid regrowth.

The shape of the boxes on these shredders includes a large rear diffuser that improves the distribution of shredded material for even coverage. They feature a flexor transmission, but the Multi-coupe is also equipped with an elastic joint that absorbs variations in torque for greater machine longevity.

Their hitches are floating. On the Green-Coupe, it can be offset for working on all types of terrain, while on the Multi-Coupe it is centralised for perfect support of the fold-out body.

In order to adjust the cutting height and ensure perfect ground tracking, they are equipped with skids fitted with   bolted wear plates and reinforced rollers with removable sealed end caps. At Desvoys, we always recommend the roller for pasture maintenance because it is very precise and also helps to spread manure. However, for greater versatility and use in crop residue destruction, the Multi-Cut can be equipped with swivel wheels with shock absorbers.

The Green-Coupe can be equipped with a hydraulic lift aerator to promote regrowth by stimulating the root system and managing grazing refusals in a single pass.
